Discovering the past of Sudan when visiting the Museum of Ethnography brought a truly local flavour to our current unit, "Ancient civilisations shape the present and inform the future". Through the models, displays and artefacts we were clearly able to make connections between processes and equipment used in the past and what is used and done now. There was also an awareness that for some people in Sudan traditional tools and methods are still being used today, and that social and economic status can play a role in this. As our students are generally well travelled they were also able to make comparisons between things of the past in Sudan and modernised versions in well developed countries. On the way back to school we used the photos we had taken to create iMovie trailers promoting the museum. Back at school we shared them with each other. All in all, a successful and stimulating day in the life of Year 4 at KICS.
