Semester 2 Week 1 in Year 4

It has been wonderful to see the students again and they have gone straight back into their routines without a hitch. The interest as we begin developing our learning about ancient civilisations is high and we have begun this by looking at some important words, dissecting the central idea, and creating and sharing a "See, Think, Wonder" on pictures of artefacts from different civilisations. The intention is to become more familiar with a variety of ancient civilisations and begin to make connections between things that existed then and the more modern versions we use now. Through this we will develop our understanding of why the past is important in the development of mankind.

In reading 4B have started learning about literature circles. We are reading longer novels and developing our reading knowledge by taking on specific roles and sharing our work with our groups. We are also looking at myths and legends and have learned how to recreate these using in comic form on the iPad. The writing focus is narrative and after creating short plays on a journey through the body we have started to plan the stories we will write for the KICS Junior Short Story Competition. Maths brings about a mix of knowledge development in shape and space while still adding to and using strategies in multiplication and division.

It has been a busy week and one of considerable learning.
