Week 15

What an exciting time everyone is having investigating different body systems and finding out what makes us work. This week we all had a great yoga session with Catherine Freijsen and found out more about the connection between healthy bodies and healthy minds. It was so calming while still being beneficial to muscles, bones and minds that the students asked Mrs Catherine if she could come back every week! 4B also had a terrific live interview with Dr. Duncan, Will's grandfather in Canada, and received answers to so many of their questions in language they could understand. Now, both classes are putting together all the information they have gained with great enthusiasm.

In language we have had further experiences learning to write procedures and give clear instructions. An interesting experience for some was attempting to give clear oral instructions to a partner who had to follow and do exactly as he/she was asked. The instructor was not allied to demonstrate which proved very hard for some and the pupil was not allowed to ask questions or use proper knowledge. Some of the results were far from what the instructors wanted which meant they needed to reflect on where they needed to make changes. This was a great learning experience for all!

For maths we are exploring strategies to calculate multiplication and division and this will continue until the Christmas break. Learning and applying strategies is important to develop better understanding and the students are becoming more skilled at explaining their thinking.

As we count down to the holidays there are many things happening and a lot of pressure for everyone to remember what is on. Please refer to the calendar so that things run smoothly for the children.
