We have started a new Unit of Inquiry titled 'Market Place'. The Central Idea is: The supply of goods and services leads to trading. In order to understand this concept, the students will develop and set up their own goods/services business.
This
week your child has been involved in brainstorming ideas for their business,
creating a survey and surveying the consumers
in the Junior Section. They then
added up the data from their market research and recorded the results onto
charts, to find out which is the most popular item.
Each
group will then find out how much capital they will need, apply for a loan,
purchase items needed (shopping fieldtrip to the Enfal), advertise, price, sell and pay
back the loan. Whatever profit the Year
4 will have made will go to a charity of their choice.
The children are excited that they will have real life experience at setting
up a business. In order for your child
to be successful at this, we will need your help in supporting and helping
him/her at home with specific tasks during the process.
Meanwhile,
it will be of great help if your child has the opportunity to experience dealing
with money in a real life context and become familiar with its value. You
might also like to have chats about money such as; - if they receive an
allowance, what would they like to spend it on? Are they be able to save money
or do they find it hard etc.?
