Happy New Year and Welcome Back

Year 4 with Nicola Davies!

What a great way to kick start the New Year and new semester, meeting Nicola Davies! The Year 4 students had a great session with  our visiting author, where she read one of her books Ice Bear  as well as some passages from her book  The Lion Who Stole My Arm which is based on a true story.  She really got the students excited about her books and animals and her adventures as a zoologist.

Getting into Shapes!

The students have been exploring different 2D shapes (polygons) and their properties.  They have learned the different types of angles (right-angle, acute and obtuse). They can identify parallel lines and are beginning to identify  the three types of triangles; equilateral, scalene and isosceles as well as sketching lines of symmetry in 2D shapes and patterns.

The students will also identify, describe and draw 3D shapes and identify the differences and similarities between them

Legacies

The Year 4 children have been looking at ancient civilizations and finding out their present geographical locations in atlases.

They are also finding  out interesting facts about  different civilizations and the gifts they left for us.

The next few weeks they will be inquiring into how the different civilizations interacted and they will compare social organizations of some of them.
