Dear Parents,

As the school has now closed for the Summer Break, Ms. Julieta and I have put together some suggestions that could help your child enhance their learning skills in a fun-filled way.

Have a great summer!

Language

Writing - these are suggestions of forms of writing your child could practice over the summer break.

  • Keep a holiday journal
  • Write and illustrate stories
  • Write explanations on how things work
  • Write instructions on how to do or make things
  • Write persuasive pieces of writing for a particular side of an argument
  • Keep a reading response journal to write about books you are reading
  • Write from the perspective of a book character
  • Write book reviews
  • Create poems
  • Create comics
  • Write rap song

Reading – encouragement of reading a variety of texts for enjoyment. This could be followed up with a variety of reading responses your child already knows how to do.

Mathematics

  • Continued practice of multiplication tables – the children already know different games they can play to practice this.
  • Practice of number operations, addition, subtraction, division and multiplication
  • Use of word problems – especially as they arise in context to real situations
  • Estimating where possible to continue building and developing number sense
  • Measuring – when cooking or using other tools

We have added some links on the 'Resources' section of this Blog. Please take a look.
